Research Reports

I have written research reports based on empirical investigations for policy-makers (e.g. UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills), business support organisations and businesses ranging from micro-firms through to very large organisations. I have given presentations based on my research to academic events and for organisations including the Department for Education and to smaller firms, for example working with Investors in People.

TEACHING

At ‘triple accredited’ institutions (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA), I have successfully designed and delivered BSc, MSc, MBA and Executive Education modules on topics relating to Organisational Behaviour/HRM, Entrepreneurship and Research Methods. I have also supervised PhD research and UG and PG dissertations on a range of management topics. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

Principal Investigator for successfully completed Management and Business Development Fellowship (Economic and Social Research Council), funded research (Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship), contract research for UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

I am currently Associate Dean of Research at Stirling Management School. Previously Deputy Director of the Durham University Critical Studies Group (including responsibility for the budget), Senior Tutor (PG and UG) at Newcastle University Business School, Deputy Head of Division (research) for Management Work and Organisation, Stirling Management School.

Occupational experience of managing resources to achieve agreed goals on time in academia (for example as a Principal Investigator), industry employment (for example change management initiatives in the Department for Work and Pensions) and as a School Governor.

PROFESSIONAL STANDING

Editorial Advisory Boards: Organization Studies, International Small Business Journal, Personnel Review.

Member of the Economic and Social Research Council Peer Review College (2012-2018).

External Examiner for UG Human Resource Management at Ulster University (2015-20).

PhD examiner (internal, external and independent chair roles). I have also supervised two PhD completions (Durham University).

Member of the UK government’s Better Regulation Executive Network of Experts (2018 on).
